What happens to our brains when we suffer?

"When a tree has a bad time, its roots grow better.".
You have to go through trials and sufferings to learn something, to learn from your mistakes and failures, and to become a more mature person.

1. Suffering changes our minds
I guess we all intuitively understand this. When we experience suffering, and it lasts long enough, there are profound changes in our brain that inevitably affect our personality.

This is especially evident in children who are abused and bullied. Such conditions have a devastating effect on their psyche and personality. Physicians and psychiatrists say that the mental state of children living in such conditions is comparable to that of a soldier in combat.

Constantly experiencing fear, anxiety, sadness. This is reflected in the brain; certain neurotransmitters are secreted and fear and pain-related areas of the brain, such as the amygdala or islet lobe, are stimulated. Regular stimulation of these areas of the brain leads to certain personality changes, and distrust, outbursts of anger, depression, and violent tendencies become typical.

Of course, it does not happen to everyone, but the likelihood of such personal changes is high. For example, when spouses are unhappy in marriage. In the end, this constant suffering leads to depression, frustration, outbursts of anger.

2. Suffering as a "teacher in the school of life
Life is not a smooth road on which we can safely walk toward our happy future. Absolutely not. Certainly, there are some pleasant moments in life, but suffering also has a big place in it... And it acts as a "teacher. A good teacher, but also one who knows no pity.

They say that he who has not suffered, has not lived.

He who does not learn from his mistakes does not understand that life is a constant "learning". He who does not accept responsibility for his losses and failures and does not learn from them, cannot become stronger and win.

Of course, suffering does not bring pleasure, but it should not become a wall that surrounds you and closes all the "doors". Self-esteem, inner strength, and will must become the "motors" that help defeat suffering. Remember that.

3. Try to free yourself from suffering
Don't surrender to your suffering, don't accumulate your suffering passively, resist it. Living constantly in a state of suffering, grief is very bad - both for the person and for the body, for the brain. This leads to high levels of cortisol, high levels of stress, weakened memory, problems with learning, with assimilation of new knowledge. Gradually our psyche and body weaken, we lose health and emotional balance.

If you can get out of a situation that is hurting you, just DO IT. If someone's hurting you, react to it. If something is pressuring you, so that you can't "breathe," walk away or fight back.

You can respond with tears, yelling if you have to. Lift up your voice and crush those "walls" that surround you, and which, no doubt, you do not deserve. Because no one deserves to suffer, much less suffer all the time.

Always look for the key that will help you solve your problems. Don't spare any effort, your health and self-respect are worth it.
